Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Dumisani Zuma has shared the details behind his departure from the club.

In a recent interview with Andile Ncube on Metro FM, Zuma firmly denied claims that he struggled with alcohol during his time at Chiefs. He explained that the only instance he arrived at training under the influence of alcohol was when he knew his time at the club was coming to an end.

Zuma also clarified that he was never sent to rehab by Chiefs, stating that after his car accident, he sought help from a psychologist due to the mental strain he was under. At one point, he even considered retiring from football because of the emotional toll he was experiencing.

During his career at Chiefs, Zuma made 103 competitive appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists.

Zuma further elaborated on the incident where he was caught drinking, revealing, “It was a mutual agreement to part ways. I wasn’t okay anymore, and we decided it was time for me to leave.”

He continued, “The following day, I came to training, and I could see how my teammates greeted me. They told me to check my Instagram, and that’s when I realized the situation had become public.”

When asked about rehab, Zuma reiterated, “No, I was never sent to rehab. After my accident, I even emailed the manager to say I was thinking of retiring because I couldn’t handle it anymore. That’s when I missed some training, and they advised me to speak to a psychologist.”

Zuma’s time at Chiefs ended with mutual respect, but his exit marked a challenging period for the player both on and off the field.
