Danish women’s football club FC Nordsjælland (FCN) announced the signing of South African defender Bongeka Gamede on Thursday. The 25-year-old joins FCN after a successful seven-year stint with the University of Western Cape (UWC), where she played a pivotal role in the club’s second-place finishes in the Hollywoodbets Super League over two seasons. Gamede was also instrumental in helping UWC qualify for their first-ever CAF Women’s Champions League appearance.

FCN’s Sports Director, Jessica Davis, expressed excitement about the signing, praising Gamede’s style of play. Despite her smaller physical frame, Davis highlighted how well Gamede’s approach aligns with the club’s philosophy. She also revealed that Gamede had been on their radar for some time, especially after her impressive performances in the CAF Women’s Champions League qualification with UWC. “We are incredibly happy that we have finally succeeded in welcoming Bongeka here at FC Nordsjælland,” Davis said.

Gamede herself shared her excitement about the move, noting that it was the right time for her to take the next step in her career after completing her studies in Cape Town. She expressed her admiration for FC Nordsjælland’s style of play, which focuses on possession, a style she believes suits her well. “The timing couldn’t be better,” she said. “I’m sure that the style of play can make me an even better player, and I hope I can contribute a lot to the team.” Gamede also noted that her agent worked with FCN to find the best fit for her, and she feels confident she has found the right club.
