Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe has faced off with nearly every goalkeeper in South Africa, but there’s one he never quite managed to break down.
Siyabonga Nomvethe on Itumeleng Khune
“There are many goalkeepers, but the only one I didn’t quite manage to beat properly was Itumeleng Khune,” Nomvethe shared with iDiski Times.
“Khune is the only one who got lucky. I’ve had success against all the others (laughs). I’d look at them and think, ‘This is the one, once I get the ball, he’s going to concede.’ But with Khune, it just didn’t happen for me.”
PSL Punishes Kaizer Chiefs
As reported last week, both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates faced penalties for fan misconduct during the Soweto derby on February 1.
PSL Statement
“Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has been fined R100,000, with R50,000 suspended for 12 months, on the condition they don’t reoffend within that time,” said Zola Majavu, the PSL’s lead prosecutor, in a press release.
“Unfortunately, Chiefs were previously fined R200,000 in October for similar offences, with R100,000 suspended on the condition they did not reoffend. Since they have reoffended, the suspended R100,000 is now payable immediately, bringing their total fine to R150,000, plus the costs of the Disciplinary Committee sitting.”
Orlando Pirates also faced a penalty for spectator misconduct after a missile-throwing incident during the same match. They were fined R100,000, with R25,000 suspended for 12 months under the same condition of no reoffending.
“Since Pirates reoffended, the suspended R50,000 from a previous fine has been activated, and they were given an additional R100,000 fine, with R25,000 suspended. In total, Pirates will pay R125,000 along with half of today’s costs, shared with Kaizer Chiefs,” Majavu added.
