Amid growing criticism, Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize has issued a statement vowing to resolve the club’s financial issues, including her reported R40 million tax debt and the unpaid player salaries. The club recently made headlines after an investigation was launched by SARS (South African Revenue Service) over Mkhize’s tax liabilities, while players refused to train due to the non-payment of their wages, leading to the postponement of a PSL match.

In her statement, Mkhize reassured fans and stakeholders that the club would honor its financial commitments. She acknowledged the difficulties the club was facing, including a transfer ban over deals involving Ricardo Nascimento and Samir Nurkovic, but emphasized that the club was working to resolve the situation. “The club’s management, under the leadership of our CEO and general manager, is working closely with curator Jaco Venter to secure the necessary approvals for salary payments,” Mkhize explained. “Royal AM has always placed the welfare of our staff first, and we remain fully committed to upholding this principle, even in challenging times.”

The controversy surrounding the club escalated after an old video resurfaced, showing Mkhize and her son, Andile Mpisane, handing out large sums of money to fans on the pitch in 2021, further intensifying the public backlash. Local football supporters have voiced their anger on social media, demanding that the club face full legal consequences for its financial mismanagement and failure to fulfill its obligations.
