Peter Shalulile and Bradley Grobler have both made significant strides this season in their quest to break the PSL all-time goal-scoring record. Shalulile, with five goals away from surpassing Siyabonga Nomvethe’s record of 123 goals, and Grobler, who needs six more after his return from injury, are both in the race to set new milestones in South African football.
Shalulile, currently the front-runner, scored twice this season and remains a key figure for Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite the competition for a starting spot from in-form players like Iqraam Rayners and new signing Arthur Sales, the 31-year-old’s proven ability in front of goal puts him in a strong position to break the record. With Sundowns’ array of creative players, Shalulile could benefit from the service that enhances his chances.
On the other hand, Grobler, now fully recovered from injury, marked his return with a crucial goal for SuperSport United against Richards Bay in December. At 36, Grobler has shown he still has the hunger to compete for the record, needing six goals to catch up to Nomvethe. However, he faces the challenge of competing for a starting role with new striker Samir Nurkovic, which could impact his opportunities to add to his tally.
Both players are well within reach of breaking the record by the end of the 2024/2025 PSL campaign, with fans eagerly watching their progress in the coming months.
