Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley is determined to maintain his impressive form at Kaizer Chiefs in a bid to secure a place in South Africa’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Having already helped Bafana qualify for next year’s tournament in Morocco, Dortley understands that making the final squad for AFCON is far from guaranteed. He knows that in order to secure a spot, he must continue to perform consistently at club level.
Dortley, a towering centre-back for Kaizer Chiefs, acknowledged that past involvement in the AFCON qualifiers does not automatically ensure selection for the tournament. He believes that players must show ongoing commitment and strong performances with their clubs to earn a place in the national team.
“For you to be selected for every camp, you have to perform well at the club level,” Dortley explained. “You can’t just expect to be part of the squad because the team has qualified. You have to deliver at club level, and your team needs to perform well in order for you to be chosen again for AFCON.”
With his eyes firmly set on securing a spot for AFCON 2025, Dortley is focused on helping Kaizer Chiefs return to their former glory. “My aim is to stay consistent at club level and continue doing what I’ve been doing. I want to help Kaizer Chiefs achieve things they haven’t in recent years and bring the glory days back to the club,” he added.
Dortley’s commitment to his club and the national team reflects his dedication to earning his place in the Bafana Bafana squad, as he strives for success both domestically and internationally.
