Roger De Sa has shared his thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs’ new striker, Tashreeq Morris, and while his assessment is a bit mixed, there are some positive points to consider. With the Soweto Derby just around the corner, let’s break it down.

Former Ajax coach Roger De Sa, who worked with Morris during his early years at Ajax Cape Town, is well acquainted with the 30-year-old striker. Now the head coach of the Qatar national team, De Sa has warned Chiefs fans not to expect instant magic from Morris, though he does highlight some key attributes.

Speaking on @SAFootClassics via X, De Sa said, “I coached Tashreeq when he was coming through at Ajax. He quickly became a regular in the first team. We played him as a classic number nine, though sometimes he’d be out wide due to his speed, aggression, and willingness to get into the box.”

De Sa continued, “He’s physically strong and works incredibly hard. He’s an honest player, but technically, I wouldn’t call him a standout. He’s not someone with exceptional skills, but he more than makes up for that with his work ethic and determination.”

One thing De Sa is certain of is Morris’ dedication. “You can always count on Tashreeq to give 100%—in every match and every training session. That’s something you can rely on,” he said.

He further explained Morris’ role, noting that if Chiefs are looking for a striker who can provide physicality, depth, and cause chaos in the box, Morris could be the right option. “He’s not going to score 15 goals, but he’ll get a few. He creates a lot of chaos and draws attention from defenders, which can benefit the players around him. He’s also strong defensively and a real threat in set pieces. Overall, he’s a solid option, and I believe he can help any PSL team.”

Morris brings valuable experience from his time at SuperSport, Sekhukhune, Cape Town City, and Ajax Cape Town. While he may not be an automatic starter, his physicality and experience provide manager Nasreddine Nabi with an intriguing option up front. With the unfortunate injury to Wandile Duba, Morris could see significant game time sooner than expected. He’s already been spotted in Chiefs training wearing the number 40 kit, and alongside him, new signing Glody Lilepo has also been going through his paces.

With the Soweto Derby approaching, Chiefs fans are eager to see how Morris fits into the squad and what impact he can make.
