Pitso Mosimane is on the hunt for another managerial job, and this time, it’s not a surprise to anyone who’s been following his career. Could Kaizer Chiefs be the right fit for him?

There’s no doubt about Mosimane’s credentials or his success across Africa. He made his mark with Mamelodi Sundowns, leading them to the CAF Champions League in 2016, and then went on to replicate that feat twice with Al Ahly in 2020 and 2021. But since leaving Egypt, Mosimane has held four managerial roles, and none have lasted longer than 15 matches. What’s the reason behind this pattern? Do Mosimane and his coaching staff have a habit of clashing with clubs that quickly?

His most recent stint at Esteghlal was disappointing, with the team averaging just 1.14 points per match in the league — by far his worst performance in terms of points per game.

Managing Kaizer Chiefs is always a pressure-filled job, given the club’s massive following and high expectations. But is Mosimane the right fit for them? Despite his impressive track record and winning mentality, there are some concerns. While he certainly brings success, he also brings a certain level of unpredictability and chaos, which could spell trouble for Chiefs at a time when they might need stability more than anything. His arrival could bring excitement, but it could also cause a slump in the league standings.

On the transfer front, Chiefs have made some moves in January 2025, with new signings like strikers Tashreeq Matthews and Glody Lilepo, along with Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabo Cele.

Orlando Pirates have had the upper hand in recent Soweto Derbies, winning the last three encounters, including the most recent league clash in March 2024, when they triumphed 3-2 thanks to a brace from Monnapule Saleng. This ended a surprising five-match win streak for Chiefs in league meetings at home. The two sides meet again on Saturday, February 1, at Orlando Stadium at 15:30, and the Pirates will be looking to extend their run.
