Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has spoken out regarding rumours linking him with a potential reunion with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena at Wydad Athletic Club.
Mokwena’s new role at Wydad AC has sparked speculation about several South African players potentially joining him in the Botola Pro League. Among those mentioned is Tau, who has been facing challenges at his current club, Al Ahly, including ongoing contract disputes and a strained relationship with head coach Marcel Koller.
In a recent interview on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube, Tau addressed the swirling rumours, clarifying his stance on the matter. “No, I did not speak with him [Mokwena] about Wydad,” Tau stated. “We are close, but I did not speak to him about work. It’s a close relationship, but he just got to Wydad, and I’m also at Ahly.”
While Tau acknowledged his strong relationship with Mokwena, he emphasised that their discussions have not included the possibility of a move to the Moroccan league. “We’re close. We will meet somewhere and talk, but not in terms of moving to Morocco,” he added.
As Tau navigates his future amid uncertainty at Al Ahly, the forward’s comments make it clear that, despite their friendship, a reunion with Mokwena at Wydad AC is not currently on the table. However, his situation remains one to watch as the summer transfer window progresses, with interest from other clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, still in play.
