Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis has opened up about the mental challenges he faced during the off-season after several high-profile transfers fell through. The 23-year-old had been linked with moves to clubs such as Esperance Sportive de Tunis, MC Alger, and Kaizer Chiefs, but none materialized. Despite the setback, Appollis maintained a positive outlook, understanding that his performances on the field were crucial to keeping his spot in the national team.

Though he has yet to score for Polokwane City this season, Appollis has continued to show consistency in his performances, which has helped him retain his place in Bafana Bafana. He has started every match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, contributing two goals and three assists, helping South Africa top Group K. Reflecting on his journey, Appollis acknowledged that maintaining good form was essential for staying in the national team, saying, “If I don’t perform, I wouldn’t be called to the national team.”

Looking forward, Appollis remains hopeful for a future move abroad, especially as his performances in the qualifiers continue to attract attention. He dreams of playing in Europe, a goal he has harbored since his youth days when he was on the verge of a move to Ajax Amsterdam. With the next Bafana Bafana fixture set to take place in his hometown of Cape Town, he is excited about playing in front of his family and fans for the first time in a Bafana jersey since 2010. Appollis hopes his strong showing in these upcoming matches will help him catch the eye of potential suitors ahead of his long-term aspirations.
