Orlando Pirates have suffered a significant blow in their efforts to sign Bafana Bafana midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba, as the 24-year-old is reportedly leaning towards staying at PSL rivals Chippa United. Kwayiba, who has been a standout performer for Chippa, had emerged as a target for the Soweto giants as they look to strengthen their squad during the January 2025 transfer window.

Pirates, who are currently second on the PSL table, had hoped to add the talented midfielder to their ranks, but recent reports suggest that Kwayiba may opt to renew his contract with Chippa, rather than making the switch to the Buccaneers. This development has left the club with a setback as they look to bolster their team for the second half of the season.

Local football fans have voiced their opinions on social media, with some urging Pirates to increase their efforts in securing Kwayiba’s signature. Others, however, have expressed doubts about whether the midfielder is capable of making an impact at a club of Pirates’ stature, given the competition for places in their midfield.

Despite this setback, Pirates continue to be linked with other potential signings, including highly-rated Stellenbosch FC star Fawaaz Basadien. As the transfer window remains open, it’s clear that the Buccaneers are focused on strengthening their squad to mount a strong challenge for the PSL title this season.
