Orlando Pirates could be facing a major overhaul, as several key figures at the club have yet to confirm their future, including coach Jose Riveiro.
Riveiro, who has led the Buccaneers to three MTN8 Cup victories, has not signed an extension to his contract, instead opting to make a decision at the end of the season. The Spanish coach has previously expressed homesickness, having left his wife and young daughter when he moved to Soweto in 2022. This personal struggle is thought to be a key factor delaying contract talks, and it could lead to his departure. A source confirmed, “He has made it clear that he misses home and family,” adding that while the club has begun discussions with his representatives, Riveiro will only finalize his future after the season concludes.

Along with the uncertainty surrounding the coach, several star players are also linked with moves away from the club. Patrick Maswanganyi, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Monnapule Saleng have all been speculated to leave, which could destabilize Pirates for the 2025/26 season. A major reshuffle would take time to gel, a situation Kaizer Chiefs are all too familiar with.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has also weighed in on Mofokeng’s potential exit, suggesting it could be his last season in the PSL. Broos remarked, “I just hope he makes the right decisions… not for financial reasons, but for his career development.” He added, “I think in June, Rele will not be a player for Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is crucial for his future.”
