Mike Makaab, a well-respected football agent, has offered some valuable advice to Kaizer Chiefs’ newly signed defender, Inacio Miguel, urging him to manage his emotions better on the field. Makaab shared his thoughts on GagasiFM’s ExtraTime, where he spoke about Miguel’s potential but also highlighted the importance of staying composed, especially as a team captain.
“I look at Inacio Miguel, and I believe he’s a top footballer,” Makaab began. “But he needs to be less emotional on the field.” He expressed concern that if Miguel doesn’t calm his temperament, he could end up accumulating unnecessary yellow and red cards.
“Without controlling his emotions, he’s going to keep getting yellow cards, then red cards. It’s inevitable if he doesn’t rein it in,” Makaab warned. He stressed the importance of maintaining composure, especially for a captain.
“As a captain, you need to be the calm in the storm. When younger players around you start to lose their heads or feel overwhelmed, it’s up to you as the senior player to steady the ship,” Makaab added.
Makaab also pointed out that the senior players at Chiefs have not always been able to do this in the past, saying, “Unfortunately, Chiefs’ senior players never steadied that ship at all.” He emphasized the need for leadership both on and off the pitch to guide the team through challenging moments.
