Manqoba Mngqithi recently reflected on his tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns after being dismissed alongside two other technical team members. Despite the decision, the experienced coach expressed pride in the accomplishments of his coaching staff and revealed his sense of contentment following his exit.
Mngqithi, who previously managed Lamontville Golden Arrows, acknowledged the efforts of his team, highlighting their dedication and achievements. Speaking in an interview with Robert Marawa on Radio 947, the 53-year-old noted that his time at Sundowns was marked by significant contributions, and he remains proud of their work.
“I’m very proud of what we accomplished as a technical team. They gave their best, and that’s something I’ll always cherish,” he stated.
After over a decade with the club, Mngqithi admitted he is now relishing a break from the intense demands of coaching at such a high level. “For the first time in 11 years, I feel like I can finally enjoy being free from the immense pressure that comes with this role,” he added.
Mngqithi’s exit follows Sundowns’ decision to restructure their technical team. Former Esperance de Tunis coach Miguel Cardoso has stepped in to replace him, while the club retained some members of the previous setup. The move comes after Rulani Mokwena, Mngqithi’s predecessor, left for Wydad Athletic Club at the end of the last season. Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe described the decision as a tough but necessary step to bring fresh changes to the team.
