Oswin Appollis, the star winger for Polokwane City, was strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs for several months, particularly during the January transfer window. While the rumors intensified, Amakhosi never made a formal offer to the Bafana Bafana international. With three goals in 15 appearances, Appollis has been instrumental in helping Polokwane City secure third place in the Betway Premiership.

At the start of the season, Appollis was expected to join a club in North Africa, but that move ultimately fell through. Polokwane City made it clear that selling the talented winger wasn’t their first choice, and they would only consider a transfer to a club outside of South Africa.

It seems Appollis might not be interested in joining a local team and could be eyeing a potential move to Europe. A switch to Chiefs could slow down his progress and jeopardize his relationship with Polokwane City, a club where he’s become a key figure.

Rise and Shine head coach Phuti Mohafe admitted that he was initially skeptical about Appollis when he first joined the club in 2023.

“When Appollis came to the club, I was one of the people who didn’t believe he would make it,” Mohafe shared during an interview on Sports Night Live with Andile. “I told him he deserved to play for the national team, but he needed to improve his attitude and fighting spirit. Since then, he’s only gotten better.”

Appollis has now been one of the standout players for Polokwane City over the past two seasons, earning a spot in the Bafana Bafana squad.

Looking ahead, Mohafe expressed confidence in Appollis’s focus amid all the transfer speculation. “I see a player who is determined and not distracted by the rumors. As for his potential move, the technical team has no say in it, and we’re not even thinking about replacing him,” he said. “Long-term, Polokwane City is the right place for Appollis. We don’t want to lose a player of his quality. We’re building something special here, and he is a key part of that.”
