Kaizer Chiefs forward, Ashley Du Preez, has reportedly caught the attention of Portuguese club Vitória SC, signaling interest in his services.
Although it hasn’t been a standout season for the former Stellies player, with just three goals in 14 league appearances, Du Preez’s recent two-year contract extension with Chiefs suggests there’s more to the story.
“The club has told me they’re going to renew my contract,” Du Preez shared with iDiski Times. “They have faith in me, and as a player, my goal is to give back to them, to show my commitment, and work towards securing an even better contract in the future.”
The timing of his extension could be part of a broader strategy for Kaizer Chiefs, who are still on the lookout for a new striker, signaling possible doubts about Du Preez’s role moving forward. It seems the extension might also be a move to ensure the club doesn’t lose the 27-year-old on a free transfer, potentially allowing them to profit from his future move.
Addressing the European interest, Du Preez said, “I’m focused on improving and helping the team win as many games as possible. Personally, I want to score more goals and contribute to the team’s success. Of course, injuries and setbacks happen, but my aim is to get back on track and focus on hitting those goal targets.”
