Kaizer Chiefs Set to Promote Young Striker Naledi Hlongwane – What Does This Mean for the Future?

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to unleash a new talent from their academy, with 19-year-old striker Naledi Hlongwane signing his first senior contract with the club. After impressing with 11 goals and 2 assists for Amakhosi in the DDC this season, Hlongwane has earned his place in the first team.

According to FARPost, the Sebokeng-born forward has been training with the senior squad since December 2024 alongside 21-year-old defender Aden McCarthy. Kaizer Chiefs are expected to announce Hlongwane’s promotion before the 2025/2026 season kicks off.

Hlongwane’s promotion will make him the seventh player to be promoted to the first team since 2020. Previous promotions include:

  • Lebohang Lesako
  • Darrel Matsheke
  • Samkelo Zwane
  • Wandile Duba
  • Mduduzi Tshabalala
  • Mfundo Vilakazi

Meanwhile, there are rumors that a few senior strikers, including Christian Saile (currently on loan at SuperSport United) and Ranga Chivaviro, may be leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season.

This weekend, Amakhosi will head to Gqeberha to face Chippa United in the Betway Premiership on Saturday at 17:30.
