Kaizer Chiefs are planning a significant squad overhaul by the end of the 2024/25 season, with over five players expected to depart as the club looks to strengthen its ranks.
After appointing new head coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team ahead of the season, Chiefs made seven signings to bolster their squad. While results have improved under Nabi, the coach believes the team needs further reinforcements to compete with rivals like Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
In the January transfer window, Chiefs added three more players—Makabi Lilepo, Thabo Cele, and Tashreeq Morris—bringing their total signings for the season to ten. With these new additions, the club is now set to part ways with several players, and here are five who are likely to leave Kaizer Chiefs come season’s end:
- Edson Castillo
Currently sidelined with an injury and with his contract expiring in June, it’s unlikely that Chiefs will renew Castillo’s deal, especially after the arrival of Cele in January. - Mduduzi Mdantsane
Mdantsane, who has struggled for minutes this season, has been loaned out to Richards Bay for six months. Given his lack of involvement at Chiefs, it’s possible he will be let go at the end of the season. - Reeve Frosler
Frosler has fallen out of favour with Nabi, who has preferred to use different players at right-back, including shifting Njabulo Blom from midfield to the position. Frosler’s limited game time suggests he may be on his way out. - Yusuf Maart
Despite being handed the captain’s armband, Maart has struggled in the midfield and has received little support this season. His performances have raised doubts about his future at the club, with many viewing him as a weak link in the squad. - Edmilson Dove
After suffering an injury in pre-season, Dove’s future is uncertain. If he returns mid-season, he’ll have to fight for his place, especially with the left-back position still a concern for Chiefs. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be given another chance or moved on.
With the first Soweto Derby of the season coming up this weekend, all eyes will be on how Chiefs perform as they look to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
