Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing, Tashreeq Morris, could make his debut for the club against AmaZulu on Tuesday, 4 February 2025. The striker was unavailable for the Soweto derby on Saturday, 1 February, due to a suspension he served after receiving a red card while playing for his former team, SuperSport United.

The announcement of his potential debut has sparked mixed reactions among local football fans on social media. Some believe Morris is not needed at Chiefs, while others are optimistic about his ability to score and make an impact in his first match for the club.

Morris joined Kaizer Chiefs during the January transfer window, alongside new signings Thabo Cele and Glody Lilepo, in an effort to strengthen the squad and improve on their current fifth-place standing in the PSL. Following their 1-0 loss in the Soweto derby, Chiefs are 15 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and have suffered six defeats in the league this season.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is hopeful that Morris will quickly integrate into the team and contribute positively, especially since he scored two goals for SuperSport United earlier this season. The Chiefs are looking to bounce back from the derby defeat, while AmaZulu, who lost 1-0 to SuperSport on the same day, will also be aiming for a win.

In the lead-up to the AmaZulu match, Nabi confirmed that Morris is back in the selection pool, but the team will be without midfielder Njabulo Blom, who is suspended after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season in the derby. Chiefs fans continue to debate whether Morris will be a valuable addition to the squad, with some expressing doubts about his ability to succeed at the club.
