Kaizer Chiefs marked their 55th anniversary with a thrilling comeback to defeat Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. After a disappointing 4-0 loss to Cape Town City in their previous match, the Glamour Boys bounced back to claim all three points. The win not only lifted their spirits but also saw them overtake Stellenbosch in the league standings, moving up to 18 points from 12 matches in the 2024/25 season.

The match saw Kaizer Chiefs recover from an early setback when Stellenbosch took the lead through Khomotjo Lekoloane in the 20th minute. However, Chiefs responded quickly in the second half with Wandile Duba scoring a brace to seal the victory. Duba’s first goal came just before halftime after connecting with a header from Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, leveling the score 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, Kaizer Chiefs took control, and Duba struck again in the 57th minute to put his team ahead. Despite some late pressure from Stellenbosch, including a free-kick from Sanele Barns that struck the woodwork and a long-range shot by Kazie Enyinnaya saved by Chiefs goalkeeper Bvuma, the visitors couldn’t find an equalizer.

Kaizer Chiefs’ win moves them up the Premier Soccer League table, pushing Stellenbosch down to sixth. With this victory, the Soweto giants are back on track after their recent slump and will look to carry their momentum into their next match against Lamontville Golden Arrows FC.

Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi continues to make changes to strengthen the squad, with reports suggesting that several players may no longer be part of the club’s plans.
