Kaizer Chiefs played to a thrilling 2-2 draw against AmaZulu in a Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Chiefs will feel they created enough chances to have claimed all three points, especially during a dominant first half.
Tashreeq Morris thought he had opened his account for Chiefs in the 18th minute, but his shot deflected off Ramahlwe Mphahlele, resulting in an own goal to give Amakhosi the lead.
However, AmaZulu’s Tshepang Moremi equalized just five minutes later in the 23rd minute, leaving both teams level at 1-1 going into the break.
The match took another twist in the second half, with Elmo Kambindu heading AmaZulu into the lead in the 60th minute. But just three minutes later, Chiefs were gifted an equalizer when AmaZulu goalkeeper Richard Ofori fumbled a back-post header from Glody Lilepo into his own net.
Kaizer Chiefs were forced to settle for a draw, which earned them one point and kept them in fifth place in the league standings with 22 pointsβtwo ahead of their next opponents, sixth-placed Stellenbosch FC. Chiefs will face Stellenbosch on Friday, 7 February, at 19:30.
With 14 points separating them from log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs are hoping to close the gap, but they have played three more matches than the leaders.
