Kaizer Chiefs have emerged from the January transfer window with three new signings aimed at boosting their squad for the 2025 season and beyond.

In their bid to enhance the current squad, Chiefs secured the signings of experienced DRC international winger Glody Lilepo, striker Tashreeq Morris, and midfielder Thabo Cele. Lilepo and Morris both signed 2-and-a-half-year contracts, while Cele joined on a 3-and-a-half-year deal. There were also efforts to bring in Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns, but that deal didn’t materialize, leaving Chiefs with only three additions during the window.

Despite missing out on Lorch, Amakhosi could still look to add experience to their roster through free agents. According to North African reports, Chiefs are interested in bringing in veteran defender Ali Maaloul, who recently left Al Ahly as a free agent.

Maaloul, the 35-year-old Tunisian international with 93 caps for his country, is currently exploring his options after leaving Al Ahly. As reported by Egypt Telegraph, the experienced defender has drawn interest from clubs across Africa and the Gulf region. Qatari club Al-Gharafa is one of the clubs reportedly keen on his signature, but Chiefs have also been mentioned as a potential destination.

With Chiefs looking to strengthen their defense, Maaloul could provide valuable experience. However, given his age, many fans may question whether he’s the right fit for the club moving forward.

Do you believe signing a 35-year-old Maaloul would be the right decision for Chiefs at this stage? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
