kaizer Chiefs are ramping up their transfer activity as the window nears its close, aiming to strengthen their squad with experienced players who can make a difference in the second half of the season.
The club’s fans were thrilled when reports surfaced that Chiefs had made a significant offer for Polokwane City’s star, Oswin Appollis. The Bafana Bafana winger had been a long-term target for Amakhosi, with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr even confirming in the past that they had approached Polokwane for his services. However, despite initial excitement, the deal fell through, and rivals Orlando Pirates were seen as the frontrunners to sign him. Yet, that move also never materialized.
Chiefs’ Offer for Appollis Hits a Wall
Now, Chiefs have submitted a fresh bid for Appollis in January 2025, but it seems they may face another setback. According to FARPost, Polokwane City is determined to keep hold of their prized asset. The club sees Appollis as one of their top talents and is focused on securing a top-three finish in the league to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup. The winger has been instrumental in their ambitions, having made 13 appearances this season, scoring twice and contributing four assists. On the international stage, his performances for Bafana Bafana have only increased his value, further complicating a potential transfer.
With Polokwane City uninterested in parting ways with Appollis at this stage, it seems Chiefs may have to shift their focus elsewhere.
Lilepo as the Alternative?
In what could be seen as a strategic pivot, Chiefs have reportedly agreed to terms with Congolese winger Glody Lilepo from Valenciennes FC. While this move might signal the end of their pursuit of Appollis for now, it’s possible that the Amakhosi will return for the 24-year-old in the future. For now, it seems Lilepo could be the player Chiefs are banking on to bolster their attack.
Chiefs fans, do you think Lilepo is a worthy alternative to Appollis, or would you prefer the club to keep pushing for the Polokwane winger? Let us know in the comments below!
