Orlando Pirates snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium, with a last-minute penalty converted by Patrick Maswanganyi. The match, which seemed headed for a goalless draw, was decided in stoppage time when Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled inside the box. Maswanganyi stepped up and calmly sent the ball past Chiefs’ keeper Bruce Bvuma, sparking wild celebrations from Pirates’ fans.

Both teams had their chances throughout the game, but Pirates looked more threatening in attack. Tshegofatso Mabasa came closest, being denied twice—first by a block from Rushwin Dortley in the 31st minute, and then by Bvuma after a failed clearance.

Chiefs also had their opportunities, with Pule Mmodi missing an early chance, and Ranga Chivaviro narrowly missing the target with a curling shot in the 76th minute.

As the game entered its final moments, both teams pushed for a winner, but it was Pirates who got the breakthrough in injury time. Mofokeng was fouled inside the box by Njabulo Blom, and the referee pointed to the spot. Maswanganyi remained calm under pressure and converted the penalty to secure the win.

With the victory, Orlando Pirates move to 30 points, closing the gap to Mamelodi Sundowns (33 points) at the top of the table, while Kaizer Chiefs remain in fifth place with 21 points, left to reflect on their missed chances.
