SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has spoken highly of former Kaizer Chiefs player Christian Saile following his recent move to the club. The 25-year-old Congolese winger joined Matsatsantsa in a swap deal that saw Tashreeq Morris head the other way. In his debut for SuperSport, Saile made an immediate impact, scoring the second goal in their 2-0 victory over Magesi FC in the Nedbank Cup round of 32.
Hunt shared his thoughts with the media, saying that the club is looking to use Saile in a way that differs from how he was utilized at Kaizer Chiefs. Saile had struggled to score during his six matches with Chiefs, but Hunt believes the winger’s strengths can be better harnessed at SuperSport.
“We all thought about how he’s different, and we needed something like that,” Hunt explained. “I was obviously sad to see Tashreeq Morris leave, but we got Christian Saile in return. He brings something different, and we’re going to try to use him in the right way and see where it leads. Only time will tell if we can get the best out of him.”
Hunt went on to praise Saile’s work ethic and attitude, calling him diligent, hardworking, and honest. “We’ll show him a few things, try to get him into the right positions, and go from there. But he has the right mindset for us,” Hunt added. “He’ll fit into our culture well, and that’s what matters most—having players who are dedicated and align with our values.”
This season, Hunt’s SuperSport United has faced Kaizer Chiefs twice—winning 1-0 in the league in October, while Chiefs claimed a 4-0 victory in the Carling Knockout Cup.
