SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes their 2-1 loss to AmaZulu on Saturday night didn’t reflect the true nature of the match. It marked their third consecutive defeat in the Betway Premiership, keeping them out of the top eight.
AmaZulu took the lead through Rowan Human, but Siphesihle Ndlovu quickly equalized for SuperSport. However, Ben Motshwari netted the winner at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Hunt felt they missed an opportunity, saying, “It was a dominant performance, a game we should have won easily. I’m really disappointed – we played well, but sometimes you can’t control what happens. We gave away two turnovers and conceded from shots outside the box. We should have been better at protecting that area, but honestly, we should have won comfortably. It’s disappointing.”
He also shared his frustration with his players in the dressing room afterward: “It’s tough when you play away, create the most chances, and dominate in the box, yet luck wasn’t on our side. They got the three points, which is frustrating. The players are devastated because they know we played well, but we haven’t been getting the results. We’ve got some great young talent, with more debuts tonight, and I thought they were excellent. They will keep improving.”
Hunt acknowledged that while the two goals they conceded were due to their own mistakes, they created several good chances themselves. “The two goals were our errors—we lost the ball, they countered, and scored from outside the box. But we also made chances from good play, not from mistakes by the opposition.”
