Former Bafana Bafana coaches Pitso Mosimane and Carlos Queiroz have reportedly been shortlisted by a prominent African football powerhouse seeking a new head coach. The two tacticians, known for their remarkable careers, have been included in a five-man managerial shortlist, according to sources close to the club.

The CAF giant in question is believed to be Al Ahly Tripoli from Libya, a club that has been keen to enhance its status on the continental stage. This development comes after the club parted ways with its previous manager following a disappointing CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Pitso Mosimane, widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest coaches, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Having enjoyed monumental success with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly SC of Egypt, Mosimane has a proven track record in both domestic and continental competitions. He led Sundowns to their maiden CAF Champions League title in 2016 and secured back-to-back Champions League finals with Al Ahly. His ability to manage big teams and deliver silverware has made him a sought-after figure across the continent.

Carlos Queiroz, a veteran of international football, is another high-profile name on the list. The Portuguese tactician, who previously managed South Africa during the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, boasts a rΓ©sumΓ© that includes coaching stints with Iran, Colombia, and Egypt. Known for his tactical acumen and ability to develop long-term strategies, Queiroz could bring a wealth of global experience to the role.

The other three names on the shortlist have not been disclosed, but sources suggest they include prominent figures with significant experience in African football. The decision will likely hinge on the club’s ambitions for the future and the candidate’s ability to meet those goals.

For Mosimane, this opportunity could mark a return to a club environment after his recent work in the Saudi Pro League. For Queiroz, it could signify a reunion with African football after managing Egypt in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Fans and pundits alike are eagerly awaiting the announcement, as either appointment would be a major coup for Al Ahly Tripoli and could potentially reshape the team’s fortunes in African football.
