AmaZulu FC’s co-coach Arthur Zwane believes that teaming up with Vusumuzi Vilakazi was “meant to be,” as he once recommended Vilakazi join him at Kaizer Chiefs.
Following a rocky start to the 2024/25 season under former coach Pablo Franco Martin, AmaZulu FC made a coaching change after losing their first three league games. The club promoted Vilakazi, known as “Kanu,” from the development squad, and brought in Zwane, the former Chiefs coach, to work alongside him.
In an interview with iDiski Times, Zwane revealed that he had seen potential in Vilakazi years ago and even suggested him for a position with the Chiefs’ youth team when Vilakazi was with Golden Arrows. However, the plan didn’t come to fruition at the time.
“To be honest, I once recommended Coach Kanu to work with me at Kaizer Chiefs when I was still with the reserve team,” Zwane told iDiski Times. “I saw the great work he was doing for Golden Arrows in their development structures, and we were looking for coaches to join our setup. Unfortunately, that opportunity didn’t materialize.”
Now, with both coaches joining forces at AmaZulu, Zwane feels their partnership was fate. “I was always hopeful our paths would cross professionally, and today, here we are working together. I’d say it was truly an answer to my prayers.”
The club and fans alike are hopeful that this partnership will help AmaZulu turn the season around, with Zwane and Vilakazi guiding the team to success.
