Deano Van Rooyen has shared how his move to Orlando Pirates came about, marking the end of his eight-year stint at Stellenbosch FC, his hometown club. The defender admitted that leaving Stellenbosch was a tough decision, given the club’s significance in his career, but he ultimately saw it as a crucial step forward.
He explained that when the opportunity to join Orlando Pirates arose, it was one he couldnβt refuse. “Stellenbosch was my home for so long, and making the switch wasnβt easy,” Van Rooyen said. “But when a club like Pirates comes calling, itβs an honor. They have a rich legacy, and being part of that is something special.”
During his time at Stellenbosch, Van Rooyen became a key figure in the teamβs defense, earning respect for his performances and leadership on the field. His consistent displays caught the eye of several top PSL clubs, with Orlando Pirates eventually making their move. After discussions with the clubβs management and coaches, he felt it was the right time to take on a new challenge.

Now at Pirates, Van Rooyen is excited about working with some of the best players and coaches in South Africa. “Pirates are a club with a winning mentality, competing on every front, and Iβm ready to help them achieve more,” he said. “There will be challenges, but Iβm determined to give my all for the team.”
