Lehlohonolo Majoro, former striker for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, believes that Orlando Pirates are poised to break Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the Premier Soccer League this season.
“I always tell people that Orlando Pirates have been laying the foundation over the last two or three seasons, sticking with the same coach throughout. During this time, the coach has gotten to know the players well, and he’s strategically reinforced the squad based on what he’s seen and experienced,” Majoro told iDiski Times.
“This consistency is why Pirates have managed to win at least one trophy almost every season, including their recent victory in the MTN8. Their pre-season games in Spain against European teams showed they can compete internationally, proving they’re growing and setting new standards. We saw it again in their recent CAF game, where their ambition was clear.”
Majoro added, “Pirates are a team with a clear vision and goals, and they’re living up to their potential. In my opinion, they are the side that will finally end Sundowns’ dominance in the league.”
When it comes to Sundowns, Majoro isn’t convinced they’ll run away with the league this season. “It’s not about the last two games we’ve seen from Sundowns; it’s about how Pirates have raised their level compared to previous seasons. This is their moment.”
Could this be the season Pirates rise to the top and dethrone Sundowns? What do you think?
