Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Thembinkosi Biyela has expressed concerns over the lack of a clear playing style under the club’s current head coach, Nasreddine Nabi. According to Biyela, it has been challenging to identify a consistent approach to how Chiefs play since Nabi took charge.

In a recent interview, Biyela shared his thoughts on the team’s tactical direction, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding their style of play. “It’s been hard to figure out what exactly Coach Nabi wants from the team,” Biyela said. “We’ve seen moments of quality, but the team seems inconsistent in terms of their game plan, especially when it comes to the strategy and formations they use.”

Biyela, who enjoyed a successful career at Chiefs, mentioned that while the squad has some talented players, the lack of a solid tactical identity has impacted their performances, particularly in key matches. He noted that the team’s approach seems to vary depending on the opposition, which has made it difficult for players to play with a cohesive understanding of the system.

One of Biyela’s main points was the inconsistency in Chiefs’ build-up play and attacking movements. “At times, they play well, moving the ball smoothly and creating chances. But at other times, they seem disjointed and struggle to break down the opposition. This is where having a clear style of play needs to be more visible,” he explained.

However, Biyela also acknowledged that Nabi is still relatively new to the club and it takes time to establish a team’s playing philosophy, especially at a high-profile club like Kaizer Chiefs. “It’s important to understand that changing a team’s mentality at a big club isn’t easy,” Biyela said. “But the players also need to understand the coach’s vision and be able to deliver it consistently on the field.”

Biyela’s comments come at a time when Kaizer Chiefs are looking to regain their former dominance in South African football. Despite flashes of brilliance, there’s been a call for the team to find a more defined and structured way of playing.

As Nabi continues to settle into his role, the next few months will be crucial for the team to establish a clear tactical identity. The pressure is on to deliver consistent performances, and whether they can achieve that through a more structured approach remains to be seen.
