In the closing stages of the first half, Arsenal regained the lead through a swift counter-attack. Bukayo Saka provided a perfect cross into the box for Eddie Nketiah, who made no mistake with his finish to put the Gunners 2-1 up going into halftime.

The second half saw Arsenal continue to dominate, extending their lead in the 56th minute. Martin Ødegaard threaded a beautiful through ball to Saka, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper, making it 3-1. With Sporting struggling to deal with Arsenal’s attacking pressure, the Gunners quickly added two more goals to seal their victory.

Nketiah grabbed his second goal in the 69th minute, heading home Ødegaard’s cross to make it 4-1. Then, in the 80th minute, Martinelli completed his brace with a powerful strike after being set up by Nketiah, further reinforcing Arsenal’s superiority.

The match ended 5-1, a dominant result that showcased Arsenal’s attacking prowess and clinical finishing. Mikel Arteta’s side controlled the game, with goals from Martinelli, Nketiah, and Saka ensuring the team made a strong statement in their Champions League campaign.

After the match, Arteta expressed his satisfaction with the performance. “It was a vital win for us, especially after our last result,” he said. “The team responded well, especially after their equalizer. We played with great intensity and took our chances superbly.”

The victory places Arsenal in a strong position in their group, and they will look to carry this form into their next European encounter. With their attacking trio firing on all cylinders, Arsenal will be a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League moving forward.

For Sporting Lisbon, it was a tough night, but they will aim to regroup and stay competitive as the group stage continues.
