Reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo to Percy Tau’s Al Ahly ahead of the 2024 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States have sparked interest across the football world. The Portuguese superstar, currently in the final year of his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, is free to negotiate with other clubs in January if his deal isn’t extended.

Ronaldo’s Al Nassr failed to qualify for the Club World Cup, a tournament in which Al Ahly is set to participate as one of Africa’s representatives. The speculation gained traction due to the possibility of Ronaldo reuniting with Lionel Messi on the same stage, as Inter Miami has secured a spot in the tournament as host representatives. This has fueled rumors of what could be one final showdown between the two iconic players.

However, Al Ahly has swiftly responded to the transfer links, dismissing the rumors. A source close to the club revealed that while signing a player of Ronaldo’s caliber is a dream for any team, the financial implications make such a move unfeasible for the Egyptian giants. The source acknowledged Ronaldo’s legendary status but emphasized that Al Ahly’s budget could not accommodate his substantial salary demands.

The idea of Ronaldo joining Al Ahly may have been appealing to fans eager to witness another chapter in the historic rivalry between him and Messi, especially during the Club World Cup group stage. However, the Red Devils have effectively ruled out the possibility, focusing instead on their preparations for the highly competitive tournament.

While the rumors may have ignited excitement, the prospect of seeing Ronaldo in the colors of Al Ahly seems unlikely at this stage.
