Sibongile Prudence Dlamini, 42, the widow of slain Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer Banele Skosana, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder. Dlamini, along with her co-accused Nhliziyozabantu Magwanyana, 34, faces accusations of orchestrating the fatal shooting of her husband, who was off duty at the time of the incident.

Skosana, 32, was tragically gunned down on February 7, 2024, in Vilakazi Street, KwaThema. At the time of the attack, Skosana was offloading stock from his vehicle for a tuck shop that he co-owned with his wife. According to the Hawks, two armed men ambushed Skosana as he was going about his business and shot him fatally before fleeing the scene.

Dlamini was arrested on February 9 after police linked her to the murder. Magwanyana, her alleged accomplice, was apprehended at a hostel in KwaThema on February 10. In court, the two appeared together for the first time on February 17, where the case was postponed for further investigation.

The details surrounding the case have sent shockwaves through the community, with reports emerging that Dlamini was seen crying hysterically at her husband’s memorial service just days before her arrest. During the service, she was surrounded by family members, clutching pictures of her late husband, and it was in this moment that police arrested her.

Meanwhile, Magwanyana reportedly confessed to the police, stating that Dlamini had been the mastermind behind the murder, paying him to carry out the brutal killing. According to sources, the plot to kill Skosana had been planned for some time, with celebrations reportedly taking place on November 30, 2023, when Skosana had completed his final payment to Dlamini.

As the investigation unfolds, the community and those close to the victim are left reeling, struggling to come to terms with the fact that the very woman who mourned the loss of her husband could have been behind his untimely death.
