A family in Delft is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Bronwin van Willing, whose life was abruptly taken on the evening of January 8, just days before she was set to start Grade 11 at Delft High School. Bronwin, who had been sent by her grandmother to buy bread at the local tuckshop, never made it back home after a devastating incident that has left her loved ones in disbelief.

,her sister, Lauren, shared how excited Bronwin was for the new school year. “She couldn’t wait to start Grade 11, and just the other day she was talking about how we needed to help her with her hair for school,” Lauren said.

Bronwin had been on her way home from the shop when tragedy struck. Lauren recalled the painful moment, β€œAs she was walking back, a car stopped, and she was caught in a dangerous situation. She tried to run, but it was clear that whoever was involved knew her. It all happened so quickly, and she was left with injuries that would end her life.”

The loss has left a deep hole in the family, particularly for Lauren, who described her sister as a joyful and lively person. “Bronwin was always full of energy, always laughing and joking around. She had such a bright personality, and we will miss her so much,” Lauren said, her voice heavy with grief.

The incident took place on Junker Street in the Hague, where local police responded to the scene at around 8:50 pm. They found Bronwin with a serious injury and immediately began their investigation. Authorities later discovered that the vehicle involved had been stolen earlier in the year, though it was found abandoned after the incident.

While the investigation is still ongoing, no arrests have been made so far. Captain Frederick van Wyk, a spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed the details of the case and urged anyone with information to come forward. He encouraged the public to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 with any tips that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

For Bronwin’s family, the pain of losing such a vibrant young woman is indescribable. As they try to process their grief, they continue to hold onto memories of a sister, daughter, and friend who brought laughter and light to their lives. The community, too, stands in solidarity, hoping for answers and justice for a young life taken too soon.
