Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, confirmed that the foetuses were discovered in a toilet at the residence on Monty Naicker Road. The discovery of the twins follows a similar incident just the day before when another foetus was found discarded in Morningside, Durban. In that case, the foetus was placed in a plastic bag and abandoned on the side of the road. These two incidents in quick succession highlight the disturbing rise in baby dumping cases in Durban, which have sparked widespread concern in the community.
Authorities are urging members of the public to report any cases of abandoned babies immediately and to make use of safe and legal alternatives for those in need. South African law allows mothers to hand over their newborns to authorities without facing any legal consequences, and there are designated safe places such as clinics and government institutions where babies can be safely surrendered.
