The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued two Yellow Level 2 warnings for various parts of the country, effective Monday. Residents are advised to prepare for severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and persisting heatwave temperatures.
According to SAWS, severe thunderstorms with excessive lightning, strong damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours are expected in the north-eastern parts of the Free State, north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, and the eastern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga.
In addition, coastal regions between Cape Agulhas and Alexander Bay can expect gusty winds and wild waves, making marine activities potentially hazardous.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and over the central and eastern parts of both the North West and Free State. Although temperatures are expected to drop in the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and KZN, the northern and central parts of South Africa will remain hot.
SAWS has also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, central and western parts of the Free State, North West, northern and western parts of Gauteng, and the Western Bushveld and Valley of Limpopo.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety, including staying informed about weather updates and advisories. The SAWS warnings are effective for Monday, and residents are urged to exercise caution and vigilance.
