A 48-year-old security guard from Mavandla Village, Malamulele, is due to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court after an incident involving his wife on January 19. The case has attracted attention due to the nature of the altercation and the serious charges brought against the man.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, the altercation began early in the morning when the husband requested the return of a firearm that his wife had kept hidden. It is understood that the wife had concealed the firearm due to ongoing disputes between the couple. During the dispute, the situation escalated, and the husband allegedly attacked his wife using a hammer.

The wife, after the incident, contacted the authorities and reported the situation. In addition to her statement, she handed over the firearm to the police, which led to the husband’s arrest. He now faces charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward. Her actions not only brought attention to the troubling circumstances of the domestic situation but also contributed to the removal of an illegal weapon from circulation, potentially preventing further harm.

The case has raised awareness about the importance of addressing domestic disputes with care and the responsibility of ensuring that firearms are handled properly and legally. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, and the man is expected to appear in court in the coming days to face the charges.
