A person was rushed to hospital for urgent care on Monday after being attacked by a rhino in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Midlands EMS spokesperson, Ronald Robertson, confirmed that emergency services were alerted to the incident, and an advanced life support team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the medical team found the individual in critical condition, having sustained serious injuries from the attack. “Immediate advanced life support treatment was initiated to stabilize the patient,” Robertson said. Given the nature of the environment, rescue teams had to rely on specialized equipment to ensure the patientβs safety while providing effective care in the challenging circumstances.
After stabilizing the patient at the scene, the team transported the person to a nearby trauma hospital for further treatment. Robertson did not provide additional details about the individual’s condition but confirmed that urgent medical care was required.
In a separate incident, emergency teams were also called to assist a young child who had been seriously injured while horse riding in Howick, also in the KZN Midlands, later on Monday afternoon. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics found the child with significant injuries, requiring immediate attention.
βThe child was stabilized on scene using specialized rescue equipment before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care,β Robertson added. Both incidents highlight the importance of quick response and advanced medical care in critical situations, especially in environments where specialized equipment is needed to ensure safety and effective treatment.
As the two patients continue to receive care, the community is reminded of the risks involved with wildlife and outdoor activities.
