A 49-year-old man from Bronville, Welkom, was arrested on Sunday evening, January 5, following an incident involving a nine-year-old boy. The child was left in the care of the mother’s boyfriend while she briefly stepped out to accompany a friend to the local taxi rank. When she returned home, the boy was found missing from his bed, prompting a search by his mother and her boyfriend. The search led them to the boy’s aunt’s house, where troubling details of the situation began to emerge.

Captain Loraine Earle, spokesperson for the local police, explained that the boy shared with his mother that the suspect had offered him money, which led him to be convinced to undress. Following the report to the authorities, the police quickly took action and were able to locate the suspect, who was promptly arrested. The police have confirmed that the suspect is facing charges in connection with the incident.

The man is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court later this week. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure a thorough legal process.
