As published by popular news site Zimoja, a shocking case has surfaced in Limpopo, where a 43-year-old police sergeant from the Senwabarwana police station has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murders of six individuals. The motive? To cash in on funeral, accidental, and life insurance policies taken out on her unsuspecting victims. The female officer, whose name has not yet been released, allegedly collected R10 million through various schemes spanning several years.
SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe revealed that the suspect’s criminal activities began in 2019, targeting vulnerable individuals from destitute families, as well as those with disabilities or mental health issues. “She would take out life insurance policies and funeral covers on their behalf, making herself the beneficiary,” explained Mathe. What followed was a string of mysterious deaths, all linked back to the sergeant. Investigators believe the officer exploited her victims’ vulnerabilities, manipulating their trust for personal financial gain.
Captain Keshi Mabunda, a seasoned investigator known for his work in the high-profile case of former police officer Rosemary Ndlovu, led the investigation. His team’s months of painstaking work uncovered the sergeant’s trail of deceit and murder, leading to her eventual arrest at the very station where she worked.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the South African Police Service (SAPS). National Commissioner of Police, General Fanie Masemola, did not mince words in condemning the officer’s actions, calling it an “absolute disgrace.” He emphasised the responsibility that comes with being a police officer, and how this individual grossly abused her position of power.
“The involvement of our own in such heinous crimes is a disgrace. As a police officer, you are entrusted with the safety and security of communities. A police officer entrusted with such a great responsibility to be involved in such acts is an absolute disgrace,” said Masemola. His message to the public was clear: no one is above the law, not even those sworn to uphold it.
The details of this case are harrowing. The sergeant allegedly meticulously planned each murder, ensuring that she would profit from the deaths of her victims. By insuring those who were already vulnerable, she thought she had found the perfect cover for her crimes, but investigators uncovered her deadly scheme. Each life taken in the name of financial gain adds to the chilling reality of a police officer who turned her badge into a tool for greed and murder.
As the sergeant faces charges of six counts of murder, the case is expected to have far-reaching consequences. With a strong case built by Captain Mabunda and his team, who had previously brought down Rosemary Ndlovu, justice may soon be served.
