Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has finally addressed the incident involving an unidentified woman who attempted to force her way into the VIP area during the unveiling of the King Shaka statue. The incident, which occurred while King Misuzulu was seated with President Cyril Ramaphosa, left many attendees puzzled and sparked speculation about the woman’s relationship with the King.
In a public address during a Shembe Church service at Enyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma on Saturday, 16 November, King Misuzulu directly refuted claims that the woman in question was his girlfriend.
“I have heard the rumours that she’s my girlfriend,” the King began, speaking candidly about the incident. “Let me make this clear: she is not my girlfriend. I know her, but that is all.”
The King confirmed that he was familiar with the woman, revealing her surname as Ngcobo, but he strongly denied any romantic involvement with her. He pointed out that the woman’s actions were part of a larger scheme orchestrated by those who oppose his leadership within the royal house.
“There are those who say she’s my girlfriend. Do they know me? It hurts to be given something that’s not yours. I want to make it clear – she’s not my girlfriend. As the King, I can’t lie. I’ll tell you the truth,” he said.
While denying any romantic connection, King Misuzulu explained that he was aware of the woman’s personal struggles and described her as being in a difficult situation. He stated that, as King, it was his responsibility to help his people, particularly those facing hardship, and acknowledged the woman’s struggles, though he refrained from disclosing her personal issues in public.
“As the King, I’m here to help my people when they’re in trouble. This girl is in trouble. Unfortunately, I won’t reveal her problems publicly. But what’s happening to her is hurting. I can’t tolerate it,” the King said, suggesting that the woman was being manipulated by those within the royal family who oppose his reign.
King Misuzulu went on to accuse his detractors within the royal house of using the woman to discredit him. “Those who are behind this are people from the royal house who are against me,” he asserted, adding that the woman was, in fact, involved with those who opposed his authority.
The King also referenced the ongoing pressures in his personal life, including rumors of tensions with his partner, Queen Nomzamo Yeni. “Now, they want Mdolomba (Queen Nomzamo) to break up with me. What do you want her to say now? We are building the home of the nation,” King Misuzulu said, emphasizing his commitment to his role as the leader of the Zulu nation despite the challenges he faces.
This statement from King Misuzulu aims to clear the air and offer an explanation for the controversial moment at the statue unveiling. It also highlights the internal conflicts within the royal house, which have been the subject of public speculation for some time.
