A man from Philippi, Cape Town, is accused of offering his ex-girlfriend a monthly allowance in an attempt to prevent her from reporting an assault. The incident occurred in early October, when the 28-year-old allegedly attacked his 24-year-old girlfriend after she questioned why he wasn’t going to work. The woman claims the man is now on the run, offering her R800 a month in exchange for her silence. Despite his promises, she is determined to ensure he faces justice for his actions.

On the evening of October 4, the woman asked her boyfriend why he hadn’t gone to work after waking up to his alarm. When she questioned him a second time, he slapped her and accused her of trying to control him. Later that night, the man allegedly locked her inside the house and became enraged, accusing her of wanting him to leave so she could meet other men. The confrontation turned violent, with him reportedly punching her and hitting her face with a safety shoe.

The victim’s 20-year-old cousin, who was devastated by the sight of her injuries, took her to a clinic for medical treatment. Despite the ongoing pressure from her attacker to stay silent, the woman is determined to report the assault. Police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed that the case is being investigated as an assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Authorities are currently trying to locate the suspect, who is believed to have fled to the Eastern Cape.
