Dr. Nomsa Masuku, a Commissioner at the Electoral Commission (IEC), made a brief appearance at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court today, as her fraud case was postponed to November 7 for further investigation.

Masuku, a former Standard Bank employee, was arrested by the Hawks in June this year and faces charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering totaling over a million rand. The allegations against her are serious, with accusations that she exploited her position to embezzle funds from the Adopt a School Trust, a corporate social investment program.

According to reports, Masuku abused her authority to award scholarships to friends and family members, with some of the funds being deposited directly into her personal bank account. The postponement of the case will allow for a thorough investigation into these allegations, which have cast a shadow over Masuku’s tenure at the IEC.

As the investigation continues, Masuku’s future at the Electoral Commission hangs in the balance. The outcome of this case will have significant implications for the integrity of the IEC and the trust placed in its Commissioners.
