Zohar Ndlazi, a South African teacher who ventured to Thailand seeking employment, found herself in an unexpected struggle with homelessness. Her situation drew the attention and compassion of fellow South Africans, many of whom extended offers of food, shelter, and even potential job opportunities. For a brief moment, it seemed hope was on the horizon for Ndlazi.

However, the narrative took a sharp turn as allegations surfaced online, branding her as a scammer. Some netizens claimed that despite numerous attempts to assist her, Ndlazi’s stories were inconsistent. One teacher in Thailand alleged that Ndlazi had accepted financial help from several people, including herself, but failed to follow through on meetings or provide clarity on her situation.

In response to these accusations, Ndlazi firmly denied any wrongdoing. Speaking to IOL, she announced her intention to pursue legal action against those she believes are defaming her character. “My Capitec bank account statement has all the payers’ names. They can say who got scammed what? I work with proof and evidence, and I am thankful for the bank’s records,” she asserted, pointing out that her account holds R2,700, a sum she claims is transparent and accounted for.

Screenshots circulated online in support of the claims against her, but Ndlazi maintains her innocence. Adding to the complexity, a fellow teacher who claimed to have shared a hostel with Ndlazi in Bangkok voiced support for her, stating in a WhatsApp voice note that “She is not scamming people but has issues.” Interestingly, Ndlazi refuted any connection to this individual, stating, “I don’t even recognize the voice. I will take the person up for defamation of character.”

Amid the swirling accusations and defenses, Ndlazi remains focused on her immediate goal—returning to South Africa before her Thai visa expires on March 1. The controversy surrounding her situation has left many questioning the truth, but Ndlazi continues to stand by her story, relying on her evidence to clear her name.
