Police in Limpopo have apprehended five male suspects, aged between 24 and 36, who are accused of a series of violent crimes that have been terrorizing Lusaka village. The arrests follow a string of assaults and robberies, with the suspects set to appear in court on Monday, January 13.
The first incident unfolded at a local tavern, where a confrontation between the suspects and the victim escalated into violence. According to Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, the victim was viciously assaulted with various objects, including a knife and an iron bar. The suspects fled the scene after the attack, leaving the victim with multiple injuries. The individual was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The violence did not stop there. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, the same group of suspects targeted a 34-year-old man as he was returning home from work. In this instance, the victim was struck with a bottle and robbed of his cellphone and cash. However, the victim managed to identify all five suspects, which played a crucial role in their swift arrest by the police between January 1 and 3.
Limpopo’s police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the officers involved for their dedication and quick action, which led to the apprehension of the suspects in such a short time. The investigation is still ongoing as law enforcement works to gather more details related to the crimes.
The five suspects are scheduled to face charges in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Their appearance will mark the next step in the legal proceedings as they answer for their alleged crimes.
