The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has launched an urgent search for a prisoner who escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Centre on Wednesday. Martin Jackson, who had been serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft, and possession of a firearm with ammunition, made his escape after being incarcerated at the facility since April 10, 2015.
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed the escape and stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the breakout is currently underway. In an effort to locate Jackson, Correctional Services is collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to track him down and bring him back into custody.
“Correctional Services has mobilized resources and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Jackson is rearrested and brought back to justice,” Nxumalo said. The department is actively working to gather information and ensure Jackson is apprehended as quickly as possible.
Nxumalo also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and assist in the search. “We are calling upon anyone with information on the escapeeβs whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or a Correctional facility,” he urged. However, he warned that members of the public should not attempt to approach Jackson if spotted, as he could be dangerous.
The escape has raised serious concerns about prison security, and authorities are determined to find Jackson and return him to custody without delay.
