Two suspects were shot and killed during a violent business robbery at a shop in Gedlembane, Mpumalanga, early on Monday morning. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, a group of armed individuals approached the premises in ka-Gudlane and placed explosives in front of the door, causing an explosion that allowed them to enter the business.
The complainant at the scene managed to inform the shop owner about the ongoing robbery, prompting the owner to call armed response security. Upon arrival, the security team discovered the robbery in progress, leading to a fierce gunfight as the suspects opened fire on them. Amidst the chaos, two individuals were shot. One of the suspects, a Somalian national, was reportedly struck in the left thigh by the armed suspects.
Police are currently in pursuit of the remaining suspects who managed to escape the scene. The acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed outrage over the incident and stressed the importance of bringing the remaining criminals to justice. “The matter is under investigation to determine what has really transpired, but two alleged suspects were fatally shot,” Mkhwanazi said. “A team of investigators has been established to probe this incident, and we are working around the clock to ensure that the other perpetrators are swiftly brought to book.”
