Colleen Makhubele Joins Parliament as MK Party MP, Sparking Cheers from Supporters

Former City of Johannesburg Chair of Chairs, Colleen Makhubele, is set to make her mark in Parliament as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the MK Party. Her appointment, announced on 22 January 2025, is a significant step in her political career, as she prepares to take on a new role within the National Assembly. Makhubele’s supporters have widely praised her deployment, with many hailing the MK Party for appointing multiple MPs to parliament, signalling the party’s growing influence and commitment to change.

Makhubele, who has an extensive political background, previously served as the Speaker of the Johannesburg Council and the Chair of Chairs. Her leadership also extended to her role as a non-executive director and board chair at the South African Post Office. Having joined the MK Party in September 2024, Makhubele is now poised to bring her experience and vision to Parliament, alongside other new appointees like Bongani Baloyi, former mayor of Midvaal.

Alongside Makhubele, Crown Prince Adil Nchabeleng has also been deployed to Parliament. A member of the Bapedi Royal Family and appointed as the chairperson of the MK Party’s Economic Transformation Committee, Nchabeleng brings a wealth of experience and commitment to the party’s goals of socio-economic transformation. Both Makhubele and Nchabeleng have been tasked with advancing the MK Party’s agenda, focusing on radical socio-economic change, land expropriation, and youth empowerment.
