In a dramatic turn of events, two of the co-accused in the notorious Limpopo pig farm murder case have chosen to abandon their bail applications. Rudolph de Wet and William Musora, who face grave charges in connection with the horrific murders of two women, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court alongside their co-accused, farmer Zachariah Olivier. The matter was postponed to next year, with the court being informed that De Wet and Musora no longer wished to proceed with seeking bail. Their decision to abandon their applications follows the disturbing nature of the case and the serious charges they are facing, which include murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and violations related to firearms and immigration laws.
The tragic events that led to the charges took place in August, when 47-year-old Mariah Makgato and 34-year-old Lucia Ndlovu were brutally shot while entering the Onvervaght farm to collect goods that had been discarded by a truck. In a horrifying twist, the women’s bodies were discovered dumped in a pigsty, a detail that has added to the gruesome nature of the case. Ndlovu’s husband was also shot during the incident but managed to escape, crawling to the main road where he was eventually assisted by a passer-by. The public reaction to this incident has been one of shock and outrage, and authorities have moved swiftly to bring those responsible to justice.
The court has set the next date for the case to continue in February 2025, allowing time for further investigations. The defence, in the meantime, will be granted access to the full docket before the trial begins, ensuring a fair preparation for the case ahead. Meanwhile, Olivier, who is also facing multiple charges, will appear on November 22 for his own bail application. The community and the families of the victims continue to wait for justice, as the legal proceedings unfold in what is shaping up to be a high-profile case in the region.
